    STUDIO SPACE

Whenever I am looking at an artist’s website I am especially in love with their posts about their studio space (like this post by Geninne D. Zlatkis). I really enjoy getting a chance to see where all the creation happens. To see what materials they use, how clean or messy they are, if the work at a table, on the floor or at an easel. It is all so interesting to me. These are a few images of my studio space and my office (well the clean part of my office anyways). All the images were taken by an awesome local photographer Evan Nash.

  • UPCOMING EXHIBITION

I have an exhibition in the State of Flux gallery at the Modern Fuel in Kingston, Ontario from 17 March to 14 April 2012. The opening reception will be on Saturday 17 March at 7 pm. Sadly, I won’t be at the opening as I will be attending the SGC Conference in New Orleans to promote Spark Box Studio but Kyle is going to be at the opening in my place. It should be a good night with some more new work– larger versions of the new wax pieces and a few etchings. The main gallery space will also be hosting its opening with work from Jason Paradis.

  • NEW WORK

I thought I might share the work I have been making for my upcoming show with Kyle. I decided, as per usual, that I would try something completely different for this show. I don’t know why I do this to myself (try a new process before a show), but I am really happy with how this work turned out. It is a combination of many drawings turned into multiple screens which I printed out in three colours. I made piles of cut up pieces of the silkscreened drawings and then collaged them onto pieces of wood with beeswax. Between each collaged stage I would remove a bit of wax so…

  • COME UP TO MY ROOM

I can’t believe it has been almost a year since Becky Lane and I were in Come Up To My Room at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. I got thinking about this when I found out that one of our current residents at Spark Box, J.P. King, will be speaking at this years CUTMR event. He will be discussing his interest in considering the future of the objects we make, use, love, and destroy, by presenting the findings of his Free Paper Project; which ran as a pop-up newspaper office in Whippersnapper Gallery this past summer. CUTMR was probably one of the craziest art related shows I have been a…

  • REFLECTING

It has been awhile since I have had an exhibition that has required as much work as this upcoming show with Kyle. It has me thinking about the last show I did with this much preparation which was at the solo exhibition called “Fill in the Spaces” I had at The Artel in Kingston. I really liked the work that came out of that exhibition. The wax drawings that I had done are definitely becoming a more prominent part of my work recently.

  • PREPARING …

Kyle and I are getting ourselves ready for our upcoming exhibition, “Opposing Forces”, at the John M. Parrott art gallery in Belleville. We will be showing new print work which is really exciting. We are finally get a chance to make our own work in our new studio which is a pretty great experience. We have three other artists working at the studio this month as well so the space is feeling lively and energized.
